Lucky us, we were offered a bottle of locally produced UV Coconut Vodka* to create some summer sippers with. If you are a coconut lover this is really the liquor for you, the smell & flavor couldn't be more coconutty. I was afraid it would have that fake sort of flavor, you all know what I mean, but that wasn't an issue at all because UV uses real coconut juice to flavor this vodka. We have so many flavor combinations in our heads, here's a few we've tried so far...
My favorite was the Spiked Coconut Chai. For this one I added a shot of UV vodka to an iced chai (equal part chai concentrate & milk over ice), Yummy! The Indian spices of the chai work perfectly with the coconut flavor. This one was perfect for a quiet afternoon outside with a book.
Coconut Mojito - Muddled mint, simple syrup, lime juice & UV Coconut vodka. This was really good though I'd strain the mint out next time. A friend had it with no mint & loved it that way too. This one is very tropical.
Spicy Ginger Coconut - For this one I muddled some more mint then added spicy ginger beer & UV Coconut Vodka. This one was a good idea but I wanted more spicy ginger flavor. Perhaps next time I'll add actually ginger.
We want to try something we berries next, perhaps this weekend. What would you mix with Coconut vodka?
*We were given a free bottle of UV Coconut Vodka to sample but not reimbursed in any other way to write or talk about it.

I would love to try the Spiked Coconut Chai! Will have to look for this CocoVodka . . .
ReplyDeletegood gads, a coconut chai sounds AWESOME! the spiked part is just an added bonus. :)
ReplyDeleteI have yet to break open my bottle of UV Coconut Vodka. I guess I've been wary of that fake flavor, that coconut-y overly sweet and excessive taste that tends to come with cheap drinks garnished with paper umbrellas. I'm also the only drinker in the house and honestly, it's no fun to try something when you can't share it and swap opinions. But one of these days, I will. The chai drink sounds wonderful, and berries? Do coconut and strawberry mix well?
ReplyDeleteI made a Strawberry Gin Fizz today and would imagine that the coconut vodka would be fabulous in it. I used sliced strawberries heavily sprinkled with sugar and left in the fridge for 2 days (lots of sweetened strawberry juice!) and mixed that will some fresh mint, club soda, and gin. The club soda kept in nice and refreshing.
ReplyDeleteGood to know the recent storms are over and you're back to Cocktailing on the patio. And I've had a Lavender Mojito before and it was great. If you want to develop a recipe, I'll send the lavender. Except it probably doesn't use lavender sprigs but some sort of syrup. Don't make cocktails. I just drink 'em.
ReplyDeleteHuh, I haven't tried that type of vodka. Your recipe creations sound great. Wish the weather in Seattle would warm up, as it sounds like it's doing in Minneapolis!
ReplyDeleteI think I would love the chai one too since I sip chai all winter long. How nice to have it spiked and chilled for the summer.
ReplyDeleteCool! I had no idea that vodka was local to you all. You are making some seriously awesome cocktails with it. I just love the idea with ginger beer! I'd likely be a bit unoriginal, but pineapple juice in a martini would be my creation. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd drink any of these :)
ReplyDeleteWe mixed our UV Coconut Vodka with equal parts Pineapple Orange Juice and Cranrasberry juice. It was the hit of the BBQ!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I mixed some Bacardi Pina Colada mix with the UV Coconut Vodka. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love coconut and this was great!
