Weekly Menu 12/13 - 12/18

Hello from the tundra! This weekend we had a blizzard that left us with 2/3 of a typically winter snowfall in 1 day! It was so bad the airport was closed, city buses stopped running, the Salvation Army pulled their bell ringer for the first time ever & even the snow plows were pulled off the roads because it was too dangerous.

Now we have dangerous wind chills & the city still hasn't plowed our street or alley so, we continued to be snowed in. Luckily, my cousin can pick me up in her 4-wheel drive jeep today to get to the store for things like bread & milk.

Don't forget to enter to win a Dried Fig Gift Package, you can enter through tomorrow. Also voting is still going on for Iron Foodie 2010 & we could really use your vote for our Sweet & Spicy Ribs! If everyone who read this blog voted we'd be a shoe-in! Voting ends Wednesday.

On to Menu Planning Monday....

24-Hour Crock Pot Beef Chili

Whole Hog Dinner - Scott Pampuch of Corner Table & Mike Phillips of Green Ox Meat will be cooking up a whole pig at the Local Tuesday night & we have tickets to the feast. Let's hope we can get there!

Winter Solstice Mac & Cheese - We picked up some Carr Valley Winter Solstice Cheddar last week & I think its mild flavor (almost tastes like a mozzarella) would be great in Mac & Cheese.

Something with leftover roast chicken - Not sure what yet though

Burgers stuffed with olives & cream cheese - Had this at the 5-8 Club & it is oh so good!

Grilled gouda, tomato & basil sandwiches with tomato soup.

Wow at the snow! If we get threats of snow everything shuts down here in Alabama. Don't know what would happen if we had that much. The chili sounds wonderful! I was in a cooking mode this weekend and made roasted vegetable soup, red beans rice and sausage and cooked a Boston Butt pork roast for barbecue. Lots of hot chocolate too. Hope you dig out soon!

WHat a storm!! I just went out to the mailbox without shoes on and was thinking that this isn't a typical December in Utah. Looks like you guys got all the snow!!

I heard about the 20 inches of slow that was dumped in your region. I hope you guys stay warm.

I can't wait to hear about the whole hog dinner. It sounds exciting!

Wow - you know things are bad when the snowploughs get pulled! We had the most snow yesterday that I have ever seen in one day (which, for an Australian isn't that much really), about 6", and I think that is going to bring the country to a standstill. Comfort food is definitely on the agenda!
